Veddha Village Camp Experience
The Veddas are Sri Lankan indigenous people. Modern Veddha’s Neolithic ancestors inhabited this island as far back as 10,000 BC as suggested by archaeological evidence & believed to be descendants of the Stone Age inhabitants of Sri Lanka. Being forest dwellers they are essentially hunters and skilled at fishing, living mainly on venison, fish and other jungle provisions. Vaddas are a truly interesting group of people who will keep you mesmerized with their song, dance, stories, and skills.
Be welcomed by the Vedda chief who can be seen with his axe hanging from his shoulder and bow slung behind him. A friendly group of people who are willing to show you around their dwellings, accompany you on a jungle walk where they will demonstrate their hunting and fishing techniques and show you the jungle caves. At night you will be treated to a gourmet BBQ dinner, amidst a roaring camp fire and the sounds of Vedda song and dance. An overnight stay at the Vedda camp is recommended for those who wish to discover the true life style and culture of these forest folk, to interact with them and be part of their activities.

Venerated by four religions, Adam’s Peak is at 2,243m above sea level, where pilgrims flock to climb during the night in the special season of January to April. It is near the hill country town of Hatton, 123km from Colombo. The spectacular sunrise seen from the peak rewards pilgrims who climb to pay respect to the footprint set in rock at the summit.
The climb is up uneven steps of granite and cement and climbers are encouraged by others to keep going; the descent is just as taxing. A ritual, after worship, is to ring the bell, not on the first visit, but only on subsequent visits. The various faiths regard the footprint as representing their own beliefs, so it is a symbol of the multi-cultural character of Sri Lanka.
